Bengaluru, May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Rupri Pharma, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., today announced it has received regulatory approval for the commercialization of the anti-impotence drug Viagra (sildenafil citrate).
The company, which is based in Kota, Japan, is currently marketing a generic version of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra (sildenafil citrate) in the country, according to Rupri Pharma's press release.

Viagra is a selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). cGMP, which is composed of cyclic guanosine monophosphate and is the main molecule in penile blood vessels, is responsible for producing the erectile response.
Rupri is currently working on a new drug application for this product which is expected to launch in the next two years.

There was no significant difference between the groups in the time of sexual intercourse.
